Left Pleural Effusion (PLAPS View)

This cine demonstrates the left PLAPS view, showing a large anechoic pleural effusion within the left hemithorax

The fluid collection is seen above the diaphragm, separating the spleen below from the adjacent left lung

The effusion extends posteriorly and allows clear visualisation of the thoracic spine above the diaphragm (spine sign), confirming the presence of pleural fluid

The left lung is seen floating within the effusion and demonstrates dynamic respiratory movement, producing the characteristic 'jellyfish sign' of compressive atelectasis

The pleural fluid appears simple and predominantly anechoic, without obvious septations, fibrin strands, or internal echogenic debris

These findings are consistent with a simple left pleural effusion with associated passive compressive atelectatic lung.
